Last week we learned about the birth of the Prince of peace Jesus the son of the Living God. Baby Jesus, whom God sent to save the people he had made in his image from their sins. JESUS “Who came to save his people from their sins.” Jesus was born Bethlehem of Judaea where Herod was king. As we come to the last part of our Bible Christmas story, we find that three wise men (Magi) that came from the East of Jerusalem and saw a star and followed it to Jerusalem. King Herod was ruler at that time. They also made King Herod mad with their question. Where is he Born King of the Jews?
The three wise men were called Magi = Followers of Zarathustra, and Priest of Zoroastrianism. Monotheistic
A Persian (Iranian) religion, having one god {Ahura Mazda} representing an expression of the mainstream race that makes up Iran and is characterized by the dualism both good and evil with in their god. They used divinations practices, it’s also where we get astrology-that study of the stars and planets movements, and they try to predict future outcomes of events from this we get those horoscopes predictions. A form of witchcraft. All from devil and it is evil. These men were wise therefore we must assume that they were intrigued by the Jewish religion because they came to worship a Jewish King. This would not have been normal practice for them. So, this can tell us we just have to tell others about Jesus.
Remember King Saul went to the witch of Endor (who practiced divination) towards the end of his life.
Our God knows all about tomorrow, and his word says don’t worry cause worry is a sin. We need to be sensitive to fortune predictions or we can foolishly fall into temptation and have expectations. All of this is a form of idols and magic, all from the devil, and this practice is foolish and evil.
It is no wonder these wise men (Magi) had seen a new star in the sky and followed it to its origin.
Matthew 2:9
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
They were not deterred from there task of finding the King of the Jews! And presenting him with gifts. Even evil knows scripture and will use it. This should also bring sadness to us for not fully knowing the word of God. Even evil knows how to give good gifts.
Matthew 2:10
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
They rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Amen! Why can’t we each time we come into his presence. Evil was rejoiced with exceeding great joy over a star. When you and I come into the House of God we need to come in with exceeding great joy. We need to worship our God with exceeding great joy.
Matthew 2:11
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
When they were come into the house- not a stable.
They saw the young child – Jesus would have been about two years of age upon their arrival.
Gold is a confession that baby Jesus is the “King.”
Frankincense is a confession that Jesus is the “High priest.”/ Holy Spirit
Myrrh suggests that Jesus would be sacrificed on the cross for us. Also, myrrh is applied to the body of a dead person, meaning physical death.
Consistent with scripture.
Matthew 2:12
And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
They all had dreams that they should not return to Herod- divine intervention.
Again, we see God’s angelic host being used here to give messages and dreams with messages.
And they went home a different way. Which would have infuriated the King Herod.
Matthew 2:13
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
We see yet another God’s angelic host being used here to give messages and dreams to Joseph warning him of impending danger. Without haste he moves to protect his family.
Matthew 2:14
When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
The prince of peace had to run and live in fear of Herod the king until Herod’s death.
God teaches in the Bible that obedience is lower than sacrifice, and He uses those who obey. Had anyone in our story did not follow the instructions of the angels God had sent our story would not exist. And we could tell no one.
Matthew 2:15
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
This also fulfilling prophecy of Hosea 11:1 “Out of Egypt have I called my son.” Most all of the prophecy were written some 500-700 years before the birth of Jesus. Only divine intervention by God.
Matthew 2:16
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
These wise men would not have been very wise if they never noticed that Herod desire to kill the Jesus the Christ child just for their asking, “Were is he that was born King of the Jews”. You see Herod was not born a king he was appointed king over the Jews by Roman authority. A king who does not care for his people is not qualified to be a king and is a cruel king who does not hesitate to commit murder. He is an unworthy king. The evil heart, through anger and wickedness, destroys division and happiness, takes away happiness, becomes pregnant with sin, and the conception turns into murder and abyss, causing us to fall into sin and become unable to have a relationship with God.
So, after 400 years of silence between the Old and New Testaments for humans covered by sin, God sent baby Jesus to this earth, and our Jesus came to the low and low land and was crucified! My Jesus, who carried the world for the sinners of this world! I love my Savior Jesus more! I’m glad the Savior has come! I pray that everyone in the world will welcome Jesus Christ.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
