143 Psalm is a Psalm of David Psalms come in two forms a song or a prayer.
We know this is a prayer from David and an urgent one at that.
This is David facing a Rea Sea! David was desolate.
{Hebrew =sham-ma’- lay in waste} Overcome with a great trial & difficulty.
Are you desolate? Are you facing finance troubles, Health issues, Physical issues, Safety issues.
Have you ever needed an urgent prayer, but did not know what to do? Everywhere you turn things seem overwhelming. Everything you try it all goes wrong… we have all been affected. Verse Psalm143:1 tell us David opened his heart to God {Yahweh = my strength, my provider} and poured it out before him.
We need to do this from time to time to avoid being overtaken by the evil one.
We need to humble ourselves and pour out heart out to God and give him all the things we can not handle and leave them there and allow God to work out the issues on our behalf. Most of the time we do not do this we try to fix it ourselves. Or we take them back and worry about them. This causes undue an unwarranted stress and sin in our lives.
I don’t believe this was ever Gods intention for us to go it alone. God knows all, and God wants us to communicate with him our needs. It’s called prayer. David did. God wants us to pour out our hearts to him. Daily.
Satan would love nothing more than to make all Christians fall flat on your face and be cast aside and to be taken out of the race.
God wants us to finish the race not to be overwhelmed and not be taken out of the race. Remember I have told you that God always answers our prayers but, in his time, not yours or mine. YES!, NO!, MAYBE!, and WAIT! But, God does answer!
David was being pursued by his enemy, much like Israelites were in the wilderness when leaving Egypt. David was being pursued by King Saul here. King Saul wanted to kill him and just as Satan pursues us.
Psalm 143:7 Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
David states the obvious here. – Hear me speedily, O LORD:
Next, he tells the Lord,
I can’t do it alone. – my spirit faileth:
Ernest plea –please hear my prayer, – hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. {lest, or, before I become like, the sinner}
David does not want to become a sinner and fall into the pit nor become the prey of Satan, so he pours out his heart to God in prayer.
Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
God gives us his grace and mercy daily when we arise in the morning, we should give thanks for this. That’s the lovingkindness shown to us.
David eagerly awaits the answer, knowing that God will answer but he also asks for his ears to hear it. – Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning.
David tells God he trusts his answer, before he receives it– for in thee do I trust:
David asks God to help him to know the right path to take – cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; {help me to do the right thing, lead me}
David tells God he is committed to follow his answer -for I lift up my soul unto thee. {Regardless of the outcome I will follow} Submission to God’s will is important.
Psalm 143: 9 Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me. {flee…: Heb. hide me with thee}
David tells God –Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: – Protect me from harm of my enemies. {Deliver me, from my troubles}
David tells God I will come to you to hide me -I flee unto thee to hide me.
David- realizes the only one that can help him with his circumstances is God.
We have no righteousness on our own. We can only obtain it from God!
Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
David asks God to Teach me! -Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God:- My teacher, my Master and my Guide.
David acknowledges–who the teacher is- thy spirit is good; – Holy Spirit, David acknowledges it is good for him.
David asks God to -lead me into the land of uprightness- lead me to the place where he can do the right thing. Help me to overcome these downtrodden feelings. Feelings of Guilt, Anger, Rage, and Piety. Help me Lord to be filled with Holy Spirit. Lead me by the Holy Spirit, help me to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
For you and me, this means…
A change in your Prayer life!
We must know that for God to hear our urgent prayer we must first repent and confess all our sins.
Then we can call on God and he will hear you! Remember I have told you that God always answers our prayers but, in his time, not yours or mine. YES!, NO!, MAYBE!, and WAIT! But God will answer!
David needed a speedy prayer request; Paul tells us in NT to pray without ceasing… either way we pour out our heart to God and leave it there.
Submission/commitment
Submit/commit your will to God’s will and answers. Submit/commit to the work the Lord has laid out before you.
A change in your life!
God will give us Deliverance from your circumstances or give us strength to bare it. God will teach us and guide us the right way and right thing to do.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Selah!
