The Risen Christ, Jesus is Master of our Service. Part 2
John 21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
Jesus loved them all but we see in scripture every time John is mentioned he is addressed as the “disciple whom Jesus loved.” [This John was the brother of James and a son of Zebedee.] John cared for his fellow co-laborer, and John said to Peter is it Jesus, now we must understand Peter denied Jesus three times before this. His mindset may have been sadden, downtrodden, probably beating himself up over his decisions. Peter wanted redemption and as soon as he could he allowed his impulses to react quickly and entered the water and headed towards Jesus for forgiveness. Judas did not do this. We don’t want to be like Judas. Amen! We also don’t want to be the cause of someone not obtaining salvation. Remember Peter influenced them to go fishing.. Bad decisions are costly to each one of us. It could be the difference between everlasting life and everlasting death.
John 21:8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
200 cubits = 300 Feet
We are never too far from the work / ministry that God wants us to do. Our ministry is closer than you think. God is with us. We can do this with God.
John 21:9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
Jesus had already prepared the food the hungry group, he was going to sup with them, it also shows that he was there the whole time while they were fishing “I am with the always”
We are under divine anointing, depending upon the Holy Spirit for guidence. Thus, coming after Jesus, and not running before Him, or from behind Him but we need to come alongside him. Just as we come along side our brother or sister in need. That is how we shall be fishers of men.
John 21:10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
Jesus said bring your offerings to God, to share in the building up of his Kingdom! By offerings I mean not just money and tithes, but gifts, talents, helps, cooking cleaning, teaching, playing of instruments, singing, song, whatever you can offer he will except. But we should be willing to offer it. We all have something we can offer. God provided the offering we must be willing to give back to God.
John 21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
The Bible does not tell us of the significance of the number 153 but we do know that God multiplies. Amen! We need to realize when we do things for God he blesses mightily. Amen! Did you notice they did not damage their nets, so they could do more fishing. [They can still go fishing.] Do we stop because our net is full! No! Keep going! Grow your ministry, prepare for a blessing!
John 21:12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
Come & dine with the King! Come & dine, come have fellowship with the Master! Come & dine with Jesus my Lord! Come & dine have fellowship with others!
The table was set and ready. Just as the communion table is set for you. Come & dine.
Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. Jesus table is open to all who will attend. Will you join him?
They all knew it was Jesus because they knew him.
Do you know him?
We long to be successful fishers for Jesus!
We are only successful when we allow God to help us!
John 21:13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
This is a clear picture of the master feeding his servants, giving them strength for their journey ahead. Preparing the meal, they would partake in together.
Does not God our Lord and Savior do this for us? (Yes!) (Amen!)
John 21:14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
3 the number of harmony, wisdom and understanding. Maybe Jesus shewed himself this third time to his disciples to give them harmony, wisdom and understanding for their journey ahead. The Lord & Master was about to give them harmony, wisdom and understanding. They would all become the martyrs for the cause of expanding the kingdom of God to all who will except.
Don’t you want this? Yes! I do!
*** Ignorance or lack of knowledge is no excuse for us to not follow through with God Plan***
John 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
When they finished eating Jesus said to Peter do you love me! Peter answers yes you know this Lord! Jesus said “Feed my lambs.” – Feed my little ones, the word of God, teach them the gospel message, teach them about my salvation. We need to feed off of God’s word. Jesus was not just speaking to Peter he is speaking to you too! We just have to place our name in that spot.
The congregation is looking to be feed from the word of God.
The Sunday school is looking to be feed from the word of God in Bible study
The Wednesday Night is looking to be feed the word of God in Bible study
The Thursday Morning is looking to be feed the word of God Bible study
Those sheep need to be led to food, water, & a resting place.
John 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
The second time here Jesus changes the word lambs to Sheep – this lets us know that those lambs have grown up or grown spiritually.
John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
The third time here Jesus says it bothers Peter, Jesus was not trying to discourage he was about to inform him that the rest of his journey would be on his own with the Holy Spirit as his guide. Just as we have experienced along our journey the Holy Spirit walks with us to lead and guide us. Jesus was preparing him to be a martyr for the cause [Peter will you Die for me?] [Peter will you Die for the message?]
John 21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
Jesus said I will carry you trough, and I will carry you where you will not go! This is also a direct reference to our life’s journey as a child you would pick yourself up and walk where you wanted to go. As an adult you would do the same learned behavior, but when you reach old age you need assistance to move around and some will take or carry you need to go. We can also infer that Jesus is telling Peter he will be able to lay down his life for the mission of spreading the gospel message.
John 21:19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. {Follow after Me! & Come with me!}
Peter would later become a martyr for the cause and be the person that would move the modern-day church forward. It was said in scripture that he would be the rock that the church was built upon.
This world killed my Lord and Savior, it will kill you too if you follow it.
We are not excepted by the world because we believe in Jesus. What do we have to lose but eternal death by following them that are in the world.
Follow Jesus and have everlasting life!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
