Every day as we walk along this journey called life, we are faced with many paths and decisions. Which way should we go? Do I go right, or do I go left? What will the outcome be if I go right? What will the outcome be if I go left? Will there be devastating destruction? Will there be prosperity & blessings?
Psalms 86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
The Psalmist (David) is praying the Lord to “teach me”. We should first humbly acknowledge Our Lord God and sovereign Creator. We see David desired a relationship with God. Then he called on the Lord, through humble prayer. It is a direct line of communication.
We don’t have an inward desire to learn and harken, from God. When we hear about our Lord and God, we should have a natural inward desire to learn who this God is, and what He did for all of mankind. David’s desire here is for God to show him how to be better after he failed. This occurs to us as well. We have failed our God too. No one is better than anyone, we are all the same, sinners saved by Grace. When we cannot see any other way out and have exhausted all other means then we try to call on God. He is yesterday, today, and forever the same, our God never changes.
However, this world has a sin filled nature that has caused all of us to live such a sinful life and has seared our conscience’s so badly that we continue sinning in our pride and arrogant filled hearts and end up losing our life. There is only one way out of this situation, Jesus is the way the truth and the light that we must ask him for forgiveness. By repentance and confession. He is our redemption.
Teach me thy way
What is the way? It is desire to be obedience to Lord. It’s God’s direction. It’s what will please God. It is my duty is to follow Jesus. “What course I shall take to please thee O Lord”? It is personal. As I choose my salvation and make my life right first. Then I can work on my family. Then others.
O LORD
The Lord is the Lord of the Psalmist life. This means having no other gods before our Creator, Lord, God and Savior. The Master of his life and he will follow wherever He leads him.
Teach me thy truth notice the pattern
The Psalmist then is praying for the truth to be revealed to him. What is the truth? It is simple, it’s not a lie! A lie changes each time it is told, and it is usually gets worse if it is allowed to continue. It is like a snowball…keeps getting bigger, bigger… We need to cast sin away and seek God. All truth comes from God’s and His word and leads us in paths of righteousness.
Teach me to unite my heart
The Psalmist then is praying for the Lord to unite or bind his heart to the Name of His God, so that he fears His teaching. To be in unity with God and his word to become one with God. It is a forcing of oneself, to follow and study to gain understanding of the word of God. God gives us mercy and grace in our life, and we will be prosperous.
If we also perform this in our lives, all this will increase our faith, and as we hear more of God’s word, it will also cause our faith to grow too. Are you willing to be obedient to our God?
Teach me to fear
Why Don’t we fear our God? All the names of our God. Creator, Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, Lord, Redeemer, Savior, Messiah, Jesus, and The Christ. All these names must be feared because they represent; all power, and all authority.
Isaiah 48:16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now The Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this
harken unto the word of God. Isaiah heard the voice of God and said, “here am I”. Will you say, here am I, Lord uses me?
Isaiah said, “Speak to my heart, O Lord”. In full commitment Isaiah was willing gave up his life to work for his God. Remember the nailing his earlobe to the door post of his master. This is a clear representation of his commitment to his master. We need to have commitment too. We are under the Grace of God. This does not take place today; we are free to choose. Are you willing also?
I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I
God has never spoken anything secret from the beginning. It is all here for you to read in the Bible. God has been with us from the beginning of his creation at our birth, and is with us now, and will be with us tomorrow. The Great I am.
Teach me to now The Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
A direct reference to the coming Messiah- Jesus who was sent by God the Father, to seek and saved that which was lost! And it is also referring to Isaiah who God called to rail against Israel’s sin and call them to repentance and the saving grace of God.
Isaiah 48:17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
Only the Lord God can redeem us from our sins. Only the Holy One of Israel God can teach us how to repent and bring us to convicting and convincing our hearts to change. Which will lead us to thy way we should Go. Amen! No other can. Through His teaching we profit and gain leading and redemption.
Psalms 34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me. I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Come, ye children
We all God’s Children, New converts and Young Christians in their faith we all start here. Gather around the those that teach and preach the word of God so you may grow spiritually.
hearken unto me
Hear what the Lord has to say to us. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God! Please desire lean about our Lord Jesus.
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
God says, I will teach you By His Spirit! We do not need the Lord to scare us into doing anything, but we need to know that God wants us to understand that he has all power and authority. We should be in awe of Him.
Teach ye your children of it
The word, and the way in which God wants them to go and what he wants them to do for Him. This will affect the next generation.
Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but He that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes:
This is what happens when we make decisions on our own without seeking God first…. Death and destruction enter into our lives. Not your way! Don’t be foolish. Obedience is better than sacrifice! We tend to get out of control when we choose our own way over God’s way. Isn’t that what Eve did in the Garden? Don’t be Eve!
We cannot go wrong if we ask ourselves; Will this please my God? Will this harm my relationship with my God? What is the most in line with scripture? Pride and arrogancy causes us to not follow our Lord Jesus and God. Pride comes before a fall.
Did you pray about it first? Most of the time the answer is no! We did not pray about it first. We did not seek the Lord’s advice at all. We made a rash decision out of our own free will and we end up making a bad or poor decision that effects many others too. Creating long-lasting problem in our lives. These problems effect not only our lives but, others as well.
He that hearkened unto counsel is wise.
Listening to wise counsel causes us to make good moral and wise decisions. Wise believers in God leading you and helping you with the prayers that needs you have brought to God.
Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Once we have grown in our spiritual life, we then become the wise and can help others with their issues and experiences. Daily in the temple, (our church) and in every house. As we become emboldened, and then desire to not stop teaching and preach Jesus Christ. This is definitely how; we should be or turn out. Amen!
Now we need to put it in to action!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Selah. Amen.
