We have heard about; The decree, The Birth of Jesus, The Shepherds & Angels, The Sign Given by God, The Celebration of Heaven, Let us see for ourselves, and now we will hear of Wise men & the Jealous King. We have seen the least likely, the untrustworthy, and uncleaned, chosen to do the will of God we have seen the wicked and ungodly used by God to complete his will on earth as it is in Heaven.
In our revelation of God’s word, we see such a diversity of people involved in the supernatural details of the entire story. Amen! It happens to be a historically true event.
Matthew shows us that the Messiah was born in Bethlehem as predicted, that his appearance provoked Jewish hostility but won Gentile acceptance of (the Magi), and above all to set up a contrast between Moses and Jesus. Moses Law and Jesus reality and logic and common sense. (Doing the will of God, or the right thing to do). Lets talk about these wisemen, or were they wise men?
The Magi- they practiced Zoroastrianism- A early Persian religion, they were pagan astrologers whose skills were widely respected in the Greco-Roman world; astrology had become popular through the “science” of the East, from which we get- astrology & horoscopes. Despite the biblical prohibition of divination, many Jewish people accepted the idea that the stars could accurately predict the future (especially for Gentiles). Even though these Magi were pagans, God had chosen to reveal himself to them.
Astrology & horoscopes is witchcraft, occult, conjuring up spells, fortune telling, and sorcery.
Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Wise men- pagan astrologers, had come from the East, at least they had the since to worship the birth of Jesus Christ. What is wrong with people today? What is wrong with people that choose not to worship Jesus Christ?
Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
King of the Jews- they knew he would be the King of the Jews.
His star in the east-Star of Bethlehem. They Came to worship the King of the Jews.
Come to worship him- King of the Jews, the King of kings and Lord of lords Jesus the Savior of the world. He alone is worthy of our worship.
Matthew 2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Herod the king was troubled- To Herod, the magi’s question indicates a potential rival to his throne. Did Julius Cesar have him replaced. Was someone come to overthrow him? he began to worry and anger entered in to his heart. Afraid of losing his power.
All Jerusalem with him- The city’s residents knew of Herod’s violence and were frightened at the prospect of further trouble. The people of his kingdom was worried and angered too, they knew if the king was upset the punishment was on the way.
Matthew 2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
The chief priests and scribes of the people together- His cabinet of advisors.
Herod demanded of them where Christ should be born. they had to give him the answer weather goo or bad.
Matthew 2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
Isaiah & Micah = major & minor prophets
Isaiah-foretold the birth of Jesus Christ.
Micah-foretold the end time rule and reign of Jesus Messianic Kingdom.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
The miracle of Jesus birth. Immanuel= God with us!
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Bethlehem Ephratah= Bethlehem= House of bread Ephratah= Fruitfulness
House of bread filled with fruitfulness. Amen! God’s house filled with fruitful blessings.
Matthew 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Bethlehem size about 2,000 to 3,000 people and Jerusalem size about 25,000 people in Jesus Day.
As compared to the rest of Israel.
Matthew 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. He enquired diligently means to be devoted to getting an answer. Not to seek the truth but he had nefarious reasons for it. Flagrantly wicked and evil intent.
Matthew 2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
Scripture tells us that the verses dealing with the Jesus birth all say babe. Now Herod says young child, this being the case the wisemen could not have been at the nativity scene only Shepherds. So, it had to have been when he was around two years old.
Herod tell them he would like to worship Jesus too. Not true!
Please return to tell me where you find him.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
