Luke 22:45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
Jesus rose up from prayer, and came to his disciples, He found them sleeping for sorrow. Remember they came for the last supper where they were told that Jesus would not be long, physically with them.
We all become weak and exhausted when we experience sadness and illness, and our minds accumulate with confusion and thoughts, asking ourselves first. Why me? Thinking rather than praying. When something like this happens to me, pain, depression, and complaints come first.
In the text, the words of Jesus, who said to stay awake and pray and pray not to fall into temptation, are for us to be strong in faith no matter what trials come our way, no matter how difficult it may be, to be strong in faith, not to have a sleeping faith, but to stay awake and always pray so that we will not fall into temptation even if trials come our way. He is teaching us a prayer that can overcome this.
We all get weak a weary when we experience sorrow sadness and sickness.
Luke 22:46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
When we rise do we pray , sometimes it is hard unless you train yourself to do it.
Why do we sleep when it comes to doing the work of the Lord? Don’t you realize He is watching you. we need to awaken from our slumber and get to work.
Why do we sleep when we do the Lord’s work? Even though we say we have faith while doing the Lord’s work, we fall into temptation and are tempted by weakness and despair, so Jesus tells us to be alert.
Don’t you realize that our Jesus, who knows our physical fatigue, gives us peace, and teaches us to overcome temptations when we arm ourselves with prayer more boldly, is watching over us, and knows that our thoughts and will are weak? We must wake up from sleep, obey in faith, and begin and end with prayer in order to carry out the duties of the Lord’s disciples well.
Jesus said, rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. Temptation is around every corner we turn. If we go a day without praying, we will surely know it. Even when we miss church services, we can fall into temptation, easily this is why God gave us this instruction so that we may avoid it all together.
Jesus told us to rise up and pray so that we would not enter into temptation. Temptation is everywhere we turn. If we go a day without praying, we will know it for sure.
The church is a church built with the blood of Jesus. That is why worship is important and if we miss it, we can easily fall into temptation. Satan tempts us when we are out of relationship with God. That is why Jesus gave us the lesson of prayer so that we can avoid temptation together.
Prayer is food for life. Just like the food we eat every day is important, prayer keeps us on the path to wholeness.
Wednesday night when we have prayer meeting, we pray for all the need on our prayer list and end with The Lord’s Prayer.
Jesus said;
Matthew 6:9-13
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
This prayer keeps us from temptation.
Debt= owing someone something The Mosaic law encouraged the practice of lending, but it forbidden the exaction of interest except from foreigners. Usury was strongly condemned. On the Sabbatical 7th year all debts obligations were cancelled. These regulations prevented the accumulation of debt.
Sins = trespasses against God and men.
(Heb ‘asham, “debt”), the law concerning, the idea of sin as a “debt” pervades this legislation. The asham, which- we get our word ashamed= we are guilty of trespass, you caused a sin. Willingly or unwillingly but we all have sinned. The repayment was always a ram, was offered in cases where sins were more private.
Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
We must forgive others their trespasses, if we do not we can’t be forgiven ours.
Matthew 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Trespass = a: a violation of moral or social ethics: transgression
b: an unwarranted infringement
especially: sin
We should all be ashamed of our sins and transgression we have committed before a Holy God. Sadly, today most people arrogantly flaunt their sin before the world and our God and say watch me!
If you sacrificed a ram for your sins, and you sacrificed a ram for every sin you committed, there wouldn’t be any rams left in the world. That’s why God sent His only begotten Son, His Name is Jesus.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Selah, Amen.
