Today, I will speak about, how to pray in times of Temptation.
My Lord Jesus, he came out, and went, into the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
Luke 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
When he was at the place – Even Jesus had a place to go pray alone with his God one on one. Do you have a place where you talk with God? Adam met with him in the garden in the cool of the day. What is our problem? We give lots of excuses. When we see something is wrong, we complain, we are whining and blaming others. When you do it your way, we are very happy and your excited and you forget God. We must not forget our God. This is not the way God wants us to handle our prayer life. This is why He gave his disciples and us these instructions for our sake.
Pray that ye enter not into temptation- Everyone, every day we need to pray, we don’t enter temptation. Temptation is around every corner we turn. This is why Jesus expressed to the disciples they must pray. How long do you think you may last without God? When temptation comes, you will need to know that it is from Satan and not God. God has never tempted anyone. Satan destroys and divides. We need to resist the devil and his manipulations and temptations.
Luke 22:41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
Jesus went to area by himself a short distance away from other humbled himself before God and prayed. Have you done this? Jesus called out to His Father; Jesus knew he was going to have to go to the cross for the sins of the entire world.
That’s yours, my, and all sins, past present and future too.
Has any experienced your boss tell you were going to lose your job, maybe you received some extremely bad news about your health. We need to turn to your heavenly Father and call on him and share our need with God. We need to humble or selves before Our Father and Lord. Pray to Him for help.
If I lie down under an apple tree and hope that an apple will fall into my mouth, there will be no result, no harvest, my teeth will be knocked out by the falling of apple, my face will be injured by the apple, and I will be harmed by some animal.
Just as those who are diligent and reap the harvest of apples can get the harvest of fresh apples by tending and toiling the apple tree themselves. When we are being lazy, and don’t tending and toiling the apple tree we can’t truly believe that an apple will fall into my mouth, by doing nothing. So, don’t be a fooled by giving excuses for not praying and not doing nothing for God. Fresh apples don’t pick them themselves off the tree, it requires people to harvest them.
Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
Jesus prayed, Father, if you’re willing, remove this cup from me-No one ever wants to go through bad experiences.
Sometimes we need to experience the things that God has in store for us so we can change.
nevertheless, not my will but thine, be done- Jesus said Father you have full control of my life and do thy will. We do not do this, and it causes more strife in our life because we desire to have full control all the time. It is not easy for us to surrender control to God. If you do you will be blessed.
Luke 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
God strengthened Jesus by an angel of heaven for the scourging, the crown of thorns, and the cross set before him, the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ. Who are we to give our children to die for the sins of others? No one, not one, not one deserves it.
Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
We need to pray more earnestly. Do you sometimes agonize when you pray?
This verse say that Jesus sweat great drops of blood in agony as he prayed earnestly over this nevertheless, not my will but thine, be done. We do not do this normally. That why it must be learned or taught to us.
Luke 22:45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
Jesus rose up from prayer, and came to his disciples, He found them sleeping for sorrow. Remember they came for the last supper where they were told that Jesus would not be long, physically with them.
Luke 22:46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
Why do we sleep when it comes to doing the work of the Lord? Don’t you realize He is watching you.
Jesus said, rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. Temptation is around every corner we turn. If we go a day without praying, we will surely know it. Even when we miss church services, we can fall into temptation, easily this is why God gave us this instruction so that we may avoid it al together.
Wednesday night when we have prayer meeting, we pray for all the need on our prayer list and end with The Lord’s Prayer.
Jesus said;
Matthew 6:9-13
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Debt= owing someone something The Mosaic law encouraged the practice of lending, but it forbidden the exaction of interest except from foreigners. Usury was strongly condemned. On the Sabbatical 7th year all debts obligations were cancelled. These regulations prevented the accumulation of debt.
Sins = trespasses against God and men.
(Heb ‘asham, “debt”), the law concerning, the idea of sin as a “debt” pervades this legislation. The asham, which- we get our word ashamed= we are guilty of trespass, you caused a sin. The repayment was always a ram, was offered in cases where sins were more private.
If you sacrificed a ram for your sins, and you sacrificed a ram for every sin you committed, there wouldn’t be any rams left in the world. That’s why God sent His only begotten Son, His Name is Jesus.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Selah, Amen.
