The LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,- Lord God spoke to Joshua and we see he was a minister to Moses. Last week we talked about the pep talk Moses gave to Joshua and Israel. “Be strong and of a good courage”
Joshua 1:2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
Joshua was passed the baton from Moses and was chosen by God to get things done. He had great responsibility overwhelming tasks ahead of him and then he had to choose who would receive what lands.
Joshua 1:3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
Every place Joshua would now place his feet God would give this land to him.
He had to go in and take it. To many times we as Christian fail to realize God has given us the victory and we don’t even take it.
Joshua 1:4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
Now it is told all the lands he must conquer. God gave them 300,000 square miles but they only went into possess 30,000 square miles. Not a big conquest. 1/10th of what they could have had.
Joshua 1:5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Sometimes we can be overwhelmed by the task before us but as we are average individuals God was reassuring Joshua, I am with you! Just as he will reassure us, I am with you!
**Joshua 1:6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
**Joshua 1:7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
God tell Joshua twice, Be strong and of a good courage, as Moses did. And reinforces to keep the Law as Moses did.
**Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Joshua keep my laws and words and commandments you shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. If you do, you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.
**Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
Gathered together those in charge of their groups.
***Joshua 1:11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.
This is a verse that is key to us for many reasons; Prepare food, three days, passing over to the other side, and to go in to possess the land. Death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, Jordan River is our sanctification, death to life. It also shows us rest in the promised land.
