When we read the Bible, we will see many different verses that speak of Ignorance. So let us define it first.
Ignorance = lack of knowledge or not knowing something.
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
“The Great Sin of The Average Christian Is Ignorance of the Word of God”.
Dr. J. Vernon McGee
If you do not know God, you will be left out, or left behind, or destroyed.
Paul wrote these words to Timothy who was of sound mind and had unfeigned (genuine or sincere) faith helping him in the ministry work.
I remember a Judge from the bench in his courtroom once told all in his court that Ignorance of the law is not a legal defense, so please do not use that as your legal defense.
Legal defense = Argument that, even if the defendant’s actions are true, they are not legally responsible.
Lots of people would still try it. “Your Honor I am not guilty because, I did not see the sign posted with a speed limit”.
“Your Honor I am not guilty because, I was unaware that the speed limit had changed” ….
When people are judged by God, if they say, “I didn’t know that what it meant,” will God accept it? Of course not.
All these are excuses…
Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
This verse is speaking of those who do not know God. If you have seen creation, Paul says, here that we all must understand that someone or something very powerful had to create all living things, from the beginning of time in this world. Because we have seen all living things we are without excuse if we do not believe in a Creator.
2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
Paul gives Timothy a warning about people that are of this world, that love this world and who do not desire to know the God of all Creation are evil men and women seeking to deceive many.
2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
Remember Timothy the things which we are taught to you, and who taught them to you. and teach others these things to others so they may know too.
2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Remember Timothy even the things which you we are taught while still a young child. God Word, remember your salvation, and faith in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Remember Timothy All scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction to help us obtain righteousness, and it was given to man for our help. The Word of God is inspired by the Holiness of the Lord.
2 Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Remember Timothy a preacher of the Word of God’s word should be perfectly fit for all the work that must be done in ministry. So, to the believers of God should be perfectly fit for all the work in ministry. Together we can accomplish great and mighty things for our God.
Apostle Paul loved Timothy and taught him to preach the Word in season and out of season, and what he needed to do in ministry. Paul and Timothy done mighty things for God in unity. Just as the entire Riverview Church is to help the Pastor and Staff in ministry at Riverview to accomplish God’s commandments here in Woodbridge.
Let us call on God that we may not be left to flatter and deceive ourselves by worldly things that disappoint and deceive us. L et us pray and grow as our precious Riverview Church, victorious through wisdom and faith in the Word of God.
Are you living a life of faith without knowing God’s Word? Now is the time to learn.
I hope you will come early on Sunday morning to attend Bible study and learn the Word, attend Wednesday evening service to participate in prayer meetings, and participate in Bible study on Thursday. By learning and listening to the true Word of God, you will gain faith and learn through prayer. And may you not be ignorant but obey and serve the Creator God with wisdom and intelligence through the Word. Amen.
Obedient better than sacrifice.
