A night watchman watches over buildings and goods of their company that they work for or a client that employs them. This is the basic premise of what a watchman does on his duty. First thing we can notice is that the watchman has a duty, this is because he/she is a hired hand to take care of the valuables of the owner or client for who they work. They are protecting the assets of their company. However, when we read in the Bible about the watchman it tells us that the concept of his duty was to warn the people of danger of their sin.
Ezekiel a prophet of the Lord sent to warn Israel of their wickedness and sin, so they could turn back to God during the Babylon captivity. Their sin caused their captivity. Chastisement of the whole Nation. The Israelite where extremely hardheaded and rebellious people (sounds like us) God would need to make Ezekiel an even more hardheaded than them to get the message out to them.
Ezekiel says to us “that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,”…
Praise the Lord someone heard it and answered the call!
Ezekiel 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
This is a clear and fair warning to Ezekiel and his people and his land. Straight from the Master Himself. God called Ezekiel to be a watchman over God’s Assets, we are the assets, that God needs to have protected. We are all in need of a Savior.
“I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel” He called him to give warning to the land of Israel and its people. “Give them warning from me.” This also tells me we are the property of God Himself, the Creator of all life. We all belong to Him. Next it shows us that we are to listen to the word of God for instruction. Ezekiel got his marching orders for his duty straight from the Commander God. “Therefore hear the word at my mouth.”
The next verse show us how extremely seriously God is when it comes to our sin and wickedness in our lives that we all have to be saved from.
“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of the Lord.” We cannot save ourselves by no means of our own. We must relay on Jesus for our salvation. Amen!
How many of you would move your home to the county dump? No one. God does not want us to live in trash either. This is why God wants us to gid rid of the sin in our lives.
Ezekiel 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Ezekiel was to warn his people that unless they repented and confessed of their sins “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die” without repentance there is no remission of our sins. Therefore it is a requirement and must be met before salvation can happen. The Lord is also warning Ezekiel if “thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life;” and He “shall die in his iniquity” or die in his sinful state. I will hold it against you. Why? Because Ezekiel was called to give them warning to repent.
Now this is extremely important that you get this and that I get this across to you today and every time we meet. This is my warning to you.
I am here to warn you of any unconfessed sin in your life that you have not repented of can cause you to end up in hell.
I am here to warn you of any unconfessed sin in your life that you have not repented of can cause you to end up in hell.
Now you have been warned!
Ezekiel 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
Now, if you have been warned, and you choose not to turn, from any unconfessed sin the punishment for this unrepented sins shall be death, but there is no danger unto the watchman, the minister, or pastor, who did his duty, to warn the sinner. Their soul will not be subject to punishment.
Ezekiel 3:20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if we were righteous and backslide and commit sin, it is a stumbling block to us and when we don’t repent and confess of it, we can die in our sin and end up lost in hell. It is written in God word that it is extremely hot in Pit. “The fire is never quenched!”
Were righteous means you heard the warning and did not heed it. God has no obligation to remember your good works you did for him. “Depart from me I never knew you!”
Ezekiel 3:21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
The difference between verse 20 and 21 is, death in 20 and life in 21. You see we can go from death to life and life everlasting! It is all matter of choice. Here we have one that repent and confessed of his sin. He realized his backslidden condition and repent and confessed and took the warning from the watchman and saved his soul and also aided in the saving of the watchman’s soul too. Remember obedience is better than sacrfice!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Amen!
