Let me ask you, when you wake up in the morning what should you do?
As Christians we should have some value to our day, we should arise and say Great is thy faithfulness, for God has given us grace for this day. Turn to your spouse and say Grace to you! For those of you that don’t have a spouse say it to God, Grace to you, my Father. In the morning, we need Jesus! Amen!
Grace to you! You try it! Grace to you!
The prophet Jeremiah had a humble heart for his country and his people this is portrayed in his writings in lamentations.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Today we will talk about Great is Thy faithfulness!
These are the only positive verses in Lamentation
Jeremiah’s Lamentations to Israel His outward affliction and inward turmoil pushed him toward despair (my soul is downcast). We often get this way when we are worried about our current circumstances or situation. In our lives we can relate to this when we have things not go smoothly in our lives, or when it is not easy.
The book of Lamentations shows us how great God’s wrath of destruction was against the sins of Jerusalem and Judah. This book is also called the “Song of Sorrows”. This is not a good place for them to be. The prophets warned them. We don’t want to be under the judgment of God either. So we must take swift action.
We must realize how we got in our circumstances or situation. Was it something we did or contributed to or was it just a random event. After that assessment, we should then consult the word of God to see if there is a way to resolve our issue.
Our focus should be on getting out of our state of despair and turmoil. And implementing the resolve we get from God’s word. This is an application to our life that will set in motion the changes necessary to resolve the issues we are facing.
What is interesting with Jeremiah’s Lamentations was an outpouring of his heart for his country, and his people. This book of Lamentations is a reminder to us, we can almost see the wailing wall that is in Israel today. We can only compare it to
the things we see occurring today when countries around the world elect or allow bad leaders to rule. The people suffer loss. Not to mention people will ultimately do what they feel is right in their own mind as the book of Judges says. Jeremiah having stated his distress and temptation, the prophet shows us how he was able to raise above it.
Jeremiah’s Lamentations to Israel is what we call an elegy– a poem of serious reflection typically a lament. Which is exactly what Jeremiah did.
Lamentations 3:21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have, I hope.
O God my Father was Great is Thy faithfulness!
This begins the transition toward a more hopeful outlook. As often as my soul calls them to remembrance, it is humbled or bowed down in me. Something may be needful for us to experience or go through for us to make the changes that are necessary. (The women at the well story) Jesus say, “I need go through Samarah”.
She did not know, but Jesus knew she need help. God knows our needs before we know them.
Lamentations 3:22 It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Because God is Great is Thy faithfulness!
If tribulation works patience, that patience will work experience, and that experience a hope that makes not ashamed. Due thoughts of the evil of sin, and of our own sinfulness. As we change from the state of sin we were in, we slowly began to see a change our mind set to follow the ways we have been instructed in God’s word we become more thankful that God did not deal with us in a stronger manner. He showed us mercy because He loves us. We get discipline from our parents when we do wrong because they love us and want us to do the right thing. Our Father in heaven is the same way. He corrects His own.
Lamentations 3:23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Remember the Red Sea moment, God held back the water all night long with the wind.
Until they were all across and safe on the other side, that is Great is thy faithfulness.
Morning by morning new mercies we see. All I have needed. Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness. Lord, unto me.
God will provide everyday what we need He will provide in every season of our life what we need.
New every morning new mercies God is Good.
My soul is humbled in me. It is evident that in the preceding verses there is a bitterness of complaint against the bitterness of adversity, that is not becoming to man when under the chastising hand of God; and, while indulging this feeling, all hope fled. Here we find a different feeling; Jeremiah humbles himself under the mighty hand of God, and then his hope revives. This truth caused Jeremiah to call out in praise. If we do this, we then can be revived and move out of our despair and downcast state. Into one of rejoicing for all God has done for us.
Lamentations 3:24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore, will I hope in him.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Keep our Hope in the Lord!
These few verses provide the only glimmer of hope in the entire book of Lamentations; they reveal that even in the midst of despair, all hope is not lost. We must remember that if we are in the hand of God we are protected and safe from all harm and no matter our current circumstances God will provide a way for us to overcome the world around us, and the evil that they may be involved in.
my portion= we have a part to play in our salvation, we have a responsibility to believe and respond. It is for our soul. It is our hope.
my soul= our soul that is important because it is on loan to us. We must keep it inline with GOD. My portion = suggests my part or my responsibility for our soul. It will spend eternity somewhere and that choice is ours.
Lamentations 3:25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
If we cannot say with unwavering voice say, The Lord is good to me; or can we say, I desire to have God in my life and I accept His salvation, and in his word do I hope? Happy shall we be, if we learn to receive affliction as laid upon us by the hand of God. And work it out, or work through it. Wait upon the Lord, seek him for he is good.
Lamentations 3:26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
Great is Thy Faithfulness!!!!
quietly wait-literally, “be in silence” and wait.
It is our duty, and it will be our comfort and satisfaction, to hope and quietly to wait for the salvation of the Lord. Most of us are impatient and desire immediate results. We have become used to instant results. Somethings can be with instant and immediate results and other things take time. We also should be aware that God is in control of time, you are not nor am I in control of time. Let’s leave it to the experts and be amazed at the results. Amen! When we let God, and Let go, we may be blessed beyond belief. Wait to see the Salvation of the Lord, we must hope and quietly wait on God! Sometimes we just have to wait. Wait for that still small voice. And follow the instructions given.
I mentioned earlier the wailing wall the Jewish people go there with their prayers on paper and place them in the cracks and holes in the wall, hoping for and answer from God. We know God always answers prayers in four ways, yes, no, Maybe and Wait. If this is the case, we don’t have the need to go to a particular location and place a note to remind our God to answer our requests. We have a direct line of communication with our God as long as we are following Him and are obedient to him. Amen!
We are never without hope as long as we hold on to Jesus! Amen!
If God gave to Jeremiah hope, why would he not give you and I hope!
He has and it is here, written in his word.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
