When we think of precious things in this world we think of gold, silver, precious stones like diamonds, rubies, pearls, and money. However, these things are merchandise and temporary they can be bought and sold at any time. The world loves these precious things. Who put the price on them? Who holds the value in them? Men and women of this world do. Not God!
Some in this world desire these things but they cannot save you, nor can they help you get to heaven. They are just jewels, and they serve no purpose other than to be earned and spent while you live in this world. Remember when the Israelites left Egypt and they were given many valuable items from the Egyptian people to leave. They carried it all into the desert with they and it became burdensome to carry all that weight into the hot dry desert, a foolish thing to do. Who were they going to trade with? For forty years some carried it with them. It still did not get them to the promise land did it. No! Most of the older generation were forbidden to enter only those 25 and under plus Joshua & Caleb entered in.
God wants us to understand the real things that are most precious of all. They are our spouses, our children and our families. Our salvation and our obedience to a Holy God. These are the things that are most precious to God. We are God’s creation and we are here to do of His good pleasure not ours.
God gave us His word, He made a way back to a Holy God through salvation, God gave us his only Son to die for our Salvation.
Job tells us the the price of wisdom is above rubies.
Job 28:18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
Coral – Red coral, which was in used for ornaments was considered high-priced” or valuable things.
Pearls – are hard, glistening organic gems produced inside the soft tissue of living shelled mollusks, primarily saltwater oysters and freshwater mussels. Pearls primarily symbolize supreme spiritual value, the perfection and purity of the heavenly kingdom, and sacred spiritual truths. It starts out as as tiny, small stone that is an irritant to the shelled mollusks and ends up the most precious of stones.
The ancients regarded them as crystal as only pure water congealed into extreme hardness by great length of time.
Purity and Perfection: The pearl’s immaculate, luminous appearance serves as the ultimate representation of spiritual purity, holiness, and absolute perfection found in heaven.
Redemptive Transformation: As a pearl develops from irritants within the shell of an oyster. This metaphor illustrates how one can emerge from adversities and exasperations stronger and more beautiful.
Sacred Wisdom: Pearls in the Bible are depicted as emblematic of the valuable divine truths and gospel. These are to be shared with discernment and prudence amongst the brethren.
Perilous Quest: In Biblical times when all pearls were genuine and very rare to find. Divers go down to the bottom of the Sea, which was very dangerous, to get shelled mollusks. They often had no pearls at all, and they were not promised to catch any.
Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Jesus warns not to throw “your pearls before pigs”. Here, pearls symbolize sacred spiritual truths, wisdom, and the teachings of the gospel, which require proper spiritual discernment to share with those who will respect their value.
The holy thing, as of something commonly recognized as sacred. The word of God.
The “pigs” are not only unclean animals but wild and vicious, capable of savage action against a person. “Dogs” must not be thought of as household pets: the world today have domesticated these wild animals. In Matthew’s Day and in Jesus’ day I don’t think theses animals were allowed in the house. Now our pets rule the house.. In the Scriptures they are normally wild, associated with what is unclean, despised. These together they serve as a picture of what is vicious, unclean, and abominable savage or snarling haters of truth and righteousness would be towards believers.
Trample them- trample the precepts under feet; men of impurity of life; those who are corrupt, polluted, profane, obscene, and sensual; those who would not know the value of the gospel.
Turn again – the quick, sharp turn of the boar when turns for the attack.
Rend you – the peculiar character of the wound made by the boar’s tusk, which is not a cut, but a long tear or rip.
We never want others to destroy our precious and priceless joy that God has blessed us with, remember we have already gone through very dangerous trials and tribulations to get where we are spirally. We cannot let the ungodly or for that matter seemingly Godly people fool us into giving up our precious wisdom and doctrine.
Matthew 13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a merchant looking for fine pearls who sells everything he owns to buy one extraordinary pearl. This represents the matchless, priceless worth of knowing God and receiving salvation, showing that it is worth sacrificing all earthly things to attain.
Matthew 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Our salvation is the only matchless, and priceless, it is unique and irreplaceable, a treasure beyond compare. It is the gift of God to us.
Salvation symbolizes a very close relationship with God, and we need it. Salvation is the treasure of all treasures, and it shows the world that it is worth sacrificing everything in this world to obtain it. God knows what is most precious and true above all else. Remember God wants us to understand the real things that are most precious of all. They are our spouses, our children and our families. Ours and their salvation and obedience to a Holy God. These are the things that are most precious to God. This merchant gave all he had for it. God gave all He had for us, to get back to Him, His only Son Jesus. To obey is better than to offer sacrifice.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
