Last week we talked about Jesus and the Word of God teaching and helping us to understand how to control anger and emotions. I mentioned that we wear our emotions on our face, and everyone around us can see how we are feeling. But the emotion that we all can use help with is our anger. This is the one that has been with us since the dawn of time. When Cain killed his brother Able. We need to understand that this part of our old nature and that we must allow the Word of God, and the example of Jesus life show us how to control our emotions. When anger makes us lose control of our emotions, are like a boiling kettle whistling on a hot burner… Obedience and emotional control are what we all must learn. Can I get an Amen!
Ephesians 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
We must realize that we must abandon the unhealthy habits we learned in our former life as sinners. Upon gaining the realization that we are like a boiling kettle, the Apostle Paul exhorts us here to abandon lying to our neighbors. Remember that Satan is the father of all lies and slander. We must be truthful with one another. Even now, those who stir up evil like hungry lions are ready to pounce. This is not desirable behavior, nor should it be done. Others may try to take advantage of those who are truthful. This is also not desirable behavior. Furthermore, even if you are angry with someone, endure it and strive to understand them even more.
Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Here we receive a warning. Most people fail to grasp the force contained within this verse. “Be ye angry, and sin not:” the Lord is telling us we will become angry from time to time as Jesus did in the Temple turning over the money changers table. We are emotional beings and will become like the that boiling kettle if we are not careful. However, the escape route given to us is to be ye angry and sin not. Just as the kettle, we need to be removed from the heat or (our situation). We do not want to boil over or when we begin to boil over remove us from the heat. Removing yourself from the sinful situation, is best for us. If possible. Then repenting and confessing, will draw you closer to God and he will show you his will for your circumstances and lead to wonderful life.
This next part is particularly important, do not let “the sun go down upon your wrath.” We need to imprint this meaning on your hearts. Did you notice the wording here you already went from anger to wrath. Why this is written, is because if we will be dwelling on the situation fuels more anger, which then turns to wrath, even driving us to seek revenge or vent on others. God word tells us to “Love one another” not seek revenge on one another. Amen!
Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil
We cannot let Satan gain a foot hold in our lives; this is because it will only lead to death and destruction.
Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
When we were dead in our trespasses and sin, we were under the curse that Adam brought into this world, and we are to labor and till the ground for our substance.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
We need to clean up our actions and our speaking. Washing and cleansing ourselves by the word of God. Some of us need to wash up. So, we can worship properly. We must be able to worship rightly with a spirit of thanksgiving and the Holy Spirit, pleasing God and participating in Jesus’ salvation.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Did you know when we sin, we grieve the Holy Spirit of God? Why, because sin and God cannot be in the same place. Jesus left us with the comforter, and we want him to stay with us but if sin is present in our lives we do not leave any room for the Holy Spirit to dell in us. But if we become slaves to sin in our lives, there is no room left for the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. Destruction awaits, leading us to regret and despair.
Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Besides God oversees vengeance. “Vengeance is mine saith the Lord” we cannot take that away from God. What belongs to God cannot be taken away or seized. Precisely because we are God’s children, no one dares to deprive us of this.
Taking vengeance ourselves is utterly foolish. We must wait upon God through prayer and supplication. Unless you wish to commit a greater sin. And God’s wrath is far more terrifying than any wrath of ours.
If we let the sun go down on our anger, we also open the door for Satan to walk into our lives and run rampant. We never resolve the problem and our problems If we do not apologize and show forgiveness. Our anger it is like that snowball effect; it just gets bigger and bigger. Holy Spirit is giving us great instruction here to lead us. We need to heed all warning within the Bible so that we can have a more prosperous life with Jesus Christ our Lord controlling our emotions.
Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Only those who are grateful for God’s grace can love and encourage one another. We need to understand if we offend our brother/sister we need to apologize and make it right. The hardest three words to says in any language is “I am sorry.” It opens the door to forgiveness and reconciliation. We need to be able to forgive others as God has also forgiven us. Only those who are grateful for God’s grace can love and encourage one another.
However, when we forgive one another, we must understand that the ones we Even now, those who stir up evil like hungry lions are ready to pounce. This is not desirable behavior, nor should it be done. forgive must repent and confess too. If they show that they have not changed from their sin. God’s word is clear to us.
Psalms 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Our hatred and strife make us deeply uncomfortable, burrowing into our very bones. Pain, anger, and resentment dry up and wound our hearts and souls.
Do not neglect to love one another and keep the commandments of God in our hearts.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Amen.
