In society today we find that we would much rather let someone else do work before we step in and do the work. Our excuse is it’s not my job! Why is it that we will wait until we receive specific instructions to each of us before we move to complete a task that is before us?
Why do we think we have to wait for God to speak directly to us before we become obedient to Him and follow His word? Who do we think we are?
After all we are His creation. Shouldn’t we follow him and his instructions to us?
It’s because of our sin nature we do this, and it causes us to have attitudes that God will not tolerate.
God, desires to have a beautiful relationship with each one of us and that includes you and me, but he does not want our bad arrogant attitudes.
Sometimes in life we must say at thy word I will.
As our events are unfolding in Luke chapter five, we find the disciples have been fishing all night but caught nothing. Jesus comes and speaks to Simon Peter from shore and says,
Luke 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
If we look at this verse and immediately see that Jesus tells his disciples Launch out into the deep,
-Launch = to go, start, to do, or to set (a boat) in motion.
It is your responsibility to move. We must, -Launch
Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Peter says, Master, we have been here all night. We are tired and caught nothing. An excuse.
We often want to give an excuse, but God’s word tells us we are people without excuse. God does not want to hear it, neither did your parents. God wants our obedience.
Peter said at thy word I will let down the net. Ok, Master, we are ready to obey. But at thy request we will. We should not have to be directed to read and study God’s Word.
It is your responsibility to respond to the will of God.
It is your responsibility is to let down the net
As His disciples are doing with their boats by launching out into the deep.
We must do the same. Then they let down their net.
You will not catch anything without letting down your net.
Master at thy word I will… Immediate blessings come…
Luke 5:6 And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
Once we follow God, He will bless us and help us along our way. Following the instruction of God will work every time. Why do it on your own?
At thy word I will…
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Selah! Amen!
