A cup of water is what we will speak about today; the human body is made up of 50 to 75% water. Water forms the basis of blood, digestive juices, urine and perspiration, and is contained in lean muscle, fat and bones.
The human body can last weeks without food, but only days without water, because the body can’t store water, we need fresh supplies every day to make up for loss every day. We need God’s word daily.
In the Bible we read about water, it is called the living water, it sustains life.
I just revealed to you your body needs water to sustain life.
Water is H2O, two parts hydrogen 1 part oxygen. The trinity has three parts, God the father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit. Three parts in each. There were two parts of the trinity mentioned in Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Jesus is not mentioned until the New Testament. We need them all in our lives to have life.
When we read in the Bible of water it is usually refers to the Holy Spirit.
John 4:10 Jesus said, “If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.”
The cost of God’s grace was the shed blood of Jesus on the cross, His saving love, through salvation is the living water, of which it is free for us to consume.
We also Baptize with water. We can see that water is extremely important to our lives in more ways than one.
God’s word tells us we should give His word it away freely, in a gesture of love and kindness. Christians should be giving His word out to people not taking it and holding onto it freely share it.
It’s so easy and simple to give away a cup of water, it doesn’t cost you anything. Do we find someone who we can share it with or someone who needs a cup of water? Do we always do it? We don’t.
A cup of water is such a small thing, when it is given with love and kindness, it can have a long-lasting meaning and impact on a person’s life.
After a long day of work and sweat, a glass of water is so refreshing and the ultimate joy. It’s our mission to share it with others. Many are in different circumstances and need the water of life. The mission and commitment that Jesus modeled has taught us, without Jesus we can do nothing, but with Jesus we can do all things.
We should understand that it needs to be given out in the right manner. Do we just throw it at a person, or do we serve the person with kindness? We serve them!
If we were to throw it at someone it may not be received well. When we give it grudgingly it may not be received. But if we serve them that need it, it will always be received with thanksgiving. Why? Because we showed that you care and there is a sense of love in the gesture.
A cup of water given with the heart, to those who are struggling, can be an encouragement to them and will be well received, and our God will keep the records of how we are doing.
Jesus is teaching us the way how to do it. The Lord is our support and strength.
We need to say to Him. Lord, we enjoy Your help! Once we do this.
He will wrap His loving arms around us and say, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” Amen!
I am reminded of Brother Bill Burrell; we visited one day, and he told his wife Sara he had gone to Wegman’s to get her some of that sweet water that she likes. You see she needs to drink more water and every time the workers try to give it to her, she will not drink it. So, Bill found a way for her to get more water and express his love too her at same time. Bill puts Splenda in it. Sara receives it because of the manner in which this was given. Out of love. How sweet a gesture on display.
The same thing happens with God’s word we need to give it out but, it is way it is given that will cause it to be received or rejected. It is up to us to find the way to give it out properly.
Matthew 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Giving is better than receiving
Jesus speaking to his disciples says, He that receiveth you receiveth me –for people to receive a disciple of Jesus. They must first receive Jesus and his message. However, most will not do this at just by reading about him in the Bible. We have heard all the excuses; Man wrote that book. Thats just a story told to get money etc… The truth is God the Father sent the Son. And Jesus the Son, and he left us with the Holy Spirit.
But if they receive Jesus will also receive God. Praise the Lord for this! We need God the Father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit in our lives to get us back on track and filled with the living water. Amen!
Matthew 10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
Jesus goes on to say, if we receive a prophet in the name of a prophet- we must understand that Jesus came to deliver a message for God the Father, to give to us that are ready to hear it. We must receive the message in Jesus Name. Jesus is the divine deliverer of the message. The prophets came before him to announce His coming and his judgement. They delivered messages to the Israelite people, to get them on track. Anything received in Jesus’s name will be a blessing to us.
Shall receive a prophet’s reward; –We will receive a prophet’s reward- You May say Pastor what is that? Even if we don’t know what it is, as long as we are following Jesus and God’s commandments, we are assured that it will be awaiting us as when we arrive in Heaven. But let me tell you what it is.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jesus was saying we must be born again, in other words we must be saved and have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In order to receive the prophet’s reward. But we receive it in heaven as we enter the Kingdom of God. Amen!
Matthew 10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones – Whosoever = anyone. Amen.
No matter who you are, where you come from, or your past is, you will be received, if we repent and confess.
A cup of water only–meaning, the smallest service for the Lord.
This will give us a great reward in heaven. Giving refreshment may be made a choice means of fellowship with righteous, if we give it because they are disciples.
In the name of a disciple-because we are Christ’s follower’s: we should love one another, because He has loved you and me first, therefore we are connected to Jesus, and should follow in his footsteps and walk wisely as he did through this sinful world.
Verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. – you will never lose your rewards in heaven. If we do the things God desires for us to do. We can do all things, in Jesus’s name. God keeps the records in the book of life, Without the Bible man cannot become wise and obtain the living water.
You will gain more and more in life doing things God’s way not your way! Be hospitable and be kind to others. Love one another. Have compassion for others.
Every kind deed is its own reward, yet the Lord promises further compensation.
These little ones- youthful believers, babes in Christ, the youngest of those who followed Jesus, He declared that the very least kindness shown to them should have its compensation.
Reflecting back
There is here a descending climax–“a prophet,” “a righteous man,” “a little one“; signifying that however low we come down in our services to those that are Christ’s, all that is done for His sake, shall be divinely appreciated and owed a reward. This shows growth, we start as a little one, progress to, a righteous man, then in confidence we preach and teach the word of God. Amen!
We do not go against our Shepherd’s leading. A man or women who follows Jesus, will have a service that they should preform, this is called, God’s will for our lives. What a blessing we receive.
Satan is seeking whom he may devour! Don’t be his victim!
Mark 9:41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
If we are following in obedience to God and his commandments, we will not lose our reward because of grace, mercy, and the love of God given to us.
Because ye belong to Christ- because we believe, and are of good character, our faith, we become obedient, and we follow his commandments, and we belong to Christ. Be delightful!!!
Come and drink from the living water daily and share it with others!
Everything started with water everything requires water and we need to acknowledge it is the Living water of life. This Living water can only come from our sovereign God.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Selah! Amen!
